First-year students are often brimming with enthusiasm and optimism for their newly embarked post-secondary educations. They are also often intimidated, overwhelmed and underprepared. These students are usually invited into the largest lecture halls with hundreds of their colleagues as their introduction to post-secondary education and specific disciplines.

In this Welcome to My Classroom session, Dr. Tonya Davidson from the Department of Sociology and Anthropology will talk about some strategies for turning large lecture halls into welcoming introductions to post-secondary education. She will also discuss some strategies for bridging some of the skill gaps from high school to university.
