Images, graphics and other visual elements have the potential to add powerful appeal to your course. Good visual design can also enhance your students’ comprehension of course materials. But where do you find images and graphics? What are the guidelines about using them? And how can you create or modify images and graphics to suit your needs better? If you want to know more about all of these topics, come to our imaging “bootcamp.”

Over two days, we will review pedagogically-sound practices and design recommendations, work on image editing skills, and explore creative ideas for image/graphic use in your class. By the end of this workshop, you will be able to devise when and what kind of images and visuals to use to strengthen your message. During the workshop, you will create at least one image and a graphic/icon to use in your course or presentations and develop the skills to keep using images in your teaching.

This eight-hour workshop will be broken up over two days:

Day 1: Image and Visual Design Basics

Day 2: Creating and Using Icons and Graphics

You will need to be able to attend both sessions to participate in this workshop.

This workshop is intended for participants with beginner/intermediate computer skills. The tools we will use include PowerPoint, cuLearn,, and Canva.

Participants should bring their own laptop. A limited number of Mac and PC laptops will be available for use during the sessions.
