In the MacOdrum Library: Unveiling of the Wigwas Chiman
Thursday, 28 September 2017, 12:15 p.m.

CUAG and the Centre for Indigenous Initiatives invite you to celebrate the installation of the Wigwas Chiman (birchbark canoe) on the main floor of the MacOdrum Library. The celebration takes place at the library on Thursday, 28 September, from 12:15 - 1:00 p.m. The ceremony includes remarks by Dr. Alastair Summerlee, President; Dr. Jerry Tomberlin, Vice-President Academic; Pinock Smith; and two students who helped build the canoe.

The canoe was built at CUAG earlier this year by twelve Carleton students, working under the wise and wonderful leadership of Pinock Smith. The students are: Ruston Fellows. Jasmin Aguirre, Dwayne Cox, William Raffelsieper, Kasia Czarskijachimowicz, Michelle Matthisen , Celeste Larocque, Summer-Harmony Twenish, Annie Kingston Miller, Gabby Richichi-Fried, Leah Snyder, and Alexandra Nahwegahbow.

Alexandra Nahwegahbow wrote about her experience as a canoe-builder. You can read her article here: https://carleton.ca/our-stories/story/crafting-birchbark-canoe/

Admission is free and everyone is welcome!
