Carleton University Art Gallery (CUAG), Gallery 101, and the Walking With Our Sisters Ottawa Committee are pleased to invite you to join in a conversation between Christi Belcourt and Kara Louttit, moderated by Karen Green.

The conversation takes place at Gallery 101, 51 Young Street, Suite B, in Ottawa’s Little Italy neighbourhood.

Speakers:

Christi Belcourt (Mètis) is an artist, activist and leader, and founder of the Walking With Our Sisters project. In 2012, she issued a public call for people to create moccasin vamps in honour of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. That call continues to be answered by women, men and children from all over North America. The commemorative art installation currently includes over 1700 pairs of vamps that together constitute what Belcourt recently called “an immense act of love.”

A Gladue Services Worker at Thunder Bay Indian Friendship Centre, Kara Louttit (Omushkego Cree) is a member of the Walking With Our Sisters National Collective, and was instrumental as a lead co-organizer for the presentation of WWOS at Thunder Bay Art Gallery last year.

A citizen of the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, Karen Green is director of Equity Services at Carleton University. She previously had her own law practice and consulting firm, and is the former executive director of the Odawa Native Friendship Centre and the Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC).
