Join us on Friday, November 18th for a Special Guest Research Seminar co-hosted with the Centre for Research on Inclusion at Work (CRIW)!

Dr. Soo Min Toh will present a talk entitled “Culture Creation and Change”. Soo Min is a Professor of Organizational Behavior at the University of Toronto Mississauga.

Description of Talk:
While culture is accepted to shape behaviour and success of organizations and nations, from achieving organizational objectives to weathering global pandemics, what causes cultures to change and whether change occurs as intended is much less understood. Soo Min will present recent work on how organizational culture affects change and may itself also be changed. Soo Min will discuss evidence as well as new theory that have implications for cultural transfer and culture change, including how likely organizations may create cultures of inclusion.

Biography:
Soo Min Toh is Professor of organizational behavior at the University of Toronto Mississauga, cross-appointed to the Rotman School of Management, and Visiting Fellow at the University of Edinburgh Business School. Soo Min’s research primarily seeks to understand how cognitive and behavioural rigidities cause us to miss important opportunities for leadership, cross-cultural adaptation, cooperation, and well-being for individuals, organizations, and nations. Soo Min is also interested in understanding the link between lifestyle and health of the post-secondary students, working adults, and their families. Soo Min’s work has been published in a variety of management and psychology journals, as well as in edited books on international management and careers. She recently co-edited a SIOP Frontiers of Research handbook on Expatriates and Global Mobility. Soo Min received her PhD from Texas A&M University, and her Bachelor of Business at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
