For more than 100  years, Hydro Ottawa and its predecessors have delivered reliable supply of electricity to Ottawa homes and businesses. The electrification of transportation represents a significant shift in utilization, which has impacts on the electrical grid from generation to end user. Mr. Hazlett will provide an overview of the electrical distribution system, as well as the current and forecasted impacts that electric vehicles present for Hydro Ottawa's system. Discussion will focus on the technical and policy solutions being developed and implemented to address these system changes, specifically how electric vehicles will be incorporated into Hydro Ottawa’s response to the challenges and opportunities associated with of aging infrastructure, changing customer expectations and changing technology, are shaping the distribution system of today for tomorrow.

Ben Hazlett is Manager of Distribution Policies and Standards with Hydro Ottawa Limited. In the various capacities at Hydro Ottawa, Ben's primary focus at Hydro Ottawa has been Asset Management including system capacity planning, reliability planning, and asset planning as well as system performance monitoring. In his current role, Ben oversees the engineering teams responsible for the planning, design and construction of the distribution system. Ben has passion for leading solutions which interface people, process and technical, to deliver value for Hydro Ottawa's customers.
