EURUS is please to host Dr. Maria Koinova for a talk entitled “Armenian Diaspora Mobilization for Genocide Recognition: Conflict and Cooperation”. Dr. Koinova’s work explores the mechanisms of conflict and cooperation in transnational diaspora politics by focusing on the case of the Armenian diaspora and its mobilization for genocide recognition. Since the events of 1915, the objective of genocide recognition has sustained the globally-spread Armenian diaspora. The talk explores which mechanisms helped sustain the issue of genocide recognition for an entire century.
Dr. Maria Koinova is the Principal Investigator of the European Research Council Starting Grant “Diasporas and Contested Sovereignty” (2012-2017). She has held academic positions at a number of prestigious institutions, including Harvard’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, Cornell’s Government Department, and the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.
