PROTOHYVE: The Centre for Innovative Research-Creation in so called Canada is hosting a two-day symposium and workshop series, inviting a constellation of national research-creationists to come together and discuss the development of research-creation needs in academia and beyond. Confronting the artistic and scholarly demand for a change in research- creation policies, a refined “definition” of research-creation, and opportunities for national collaboration, this symposium will facilitate and disseminate the national and transdisciplinary discussions of research-creationists. Together we will uncover the limitations, successes, challenges, and needs of artist-scholars across the country.
Through collaboration and conversations, we will create suggestions, examples of work, and documents that can be shared across universities and creative institutions, who are interested in developing their work in research-creation for both students and faculty. Some of these may include suggestions for REB research-creation applications; definitions or explanations of research-creation for School of Graduate Studies; suggestions for publication models; and support for undergraduate and graduate student development.
The symposium will include an exhibition at Gallery 101 and opening (with dinner and refreshments), free lunch and refreshments on both days, and 4 roundtable sessions (2 sessions a day) on the following topics:
Research Ethics Boards and research-creation models
Undergraduate and graduate student pedagogy and supervision
How to fund research-creation (SSHRC and beyond)?
Research-(care)ation at institutions.
We are inviting artists, scholars, curators, funding agencies, students, and faculty to submit interest to participate in this two-day event.
Register for this event is free, but required.
