POWER PLAY: Clean Power Politics and Policy in Ottawa
Clare Demerse
Senior Policy Advisor
Clean Energy Canada
Clean energy has moved rmly into the mainstream, with investment in clean power approaching the total invested in fossil fuelled power in 2013. Last year also saw clean energy pull even with natural gas in providing power to the world. But despite these global shifts, the energy conversation in Ottawa remains rmly xed on oil, gas and pipelines. What could our federal government be doing to better support clean energy? And how are the politics of clean energy playing out in Ottawa? Clare Demerse is a senior policy advisor with Clean Energy Canada, which is working to accelerate Canada’s transition to a clean energy future. Clare manages policy engagement on federal and national issues, focusing on renewable energy and sustainable transportation. Before joining Clean Energy Canada, Clare worked on federal climate policy with the Pembina Institute and was a Gordon Foundation Global Fellow. Clare holds a master’s degree in journalism and a bachelor’s degree in humanities, both from Carleton University.
