After scientists discover a frozen corpse that was well preserved from the Ice Age, they use its DNA to genetically create Catarina. Taken from her, Catarina grows up in an isolated facility where she is subjected to all manner of experiments. Truth is, though, Catarina’s story is actually work of fiction created by Joana, an aspiring screenwriter. Joana attends film school in Portugal where she writes Catarina’s story and develops a relationship with a man named Miguel. As her project grows, reality and fiction are blurred when Catarina’s fictional tale begins seeping into Joana’s and Miguel’s reality. Starring Ivana Baquero (Pan’s Labyrinth), this stylish sci-fi film asks: how many lives can be lived in one lifetime?
