The basis of psychologist Brian Little’s fascinating book came from his time teaching at Carleton University. Using new scientific research, Little—a self-described “pseudo extrovert”—talks about the complex delights of human personality and how it affects our personal and professional lives.

Little, a Distinguished Research Professor Emeritus at Carleton and a lecturer at Cambridge University, has been featured at TEDx Oxbridge. He is a leader in the field of personality and motivational psychology and lectures around the world on the subjects. At Carleton, Little taught for many years on ITV and reached thousands of students, many of whom still write to him. He received the 3M Award for excellence in teaching and was also named a favourite professor three years in a row when he taught at Harvard.

Little brings in self-deprecating anecdotes and laugh-out-loud examples from real life while exploring major questions such as:

-Is our character set by age 30?
-When do we act “strategically disagreeable”?
-Are we hardwired for happiness?
-How can a “free trait agreement” improve your relationships?

Brian Little’s book explores questions that are rooted in the origins of human consciousness, but are as commonplace as yesterday’s breakfast conversation.

The Ottawa Leadership Luncheon is hosted twice annually by the Carleton University Alumni Association to bring contemporary topics of interest from faculty and alumni to the community.
