About this Event

Host Organization: School of Journalism and Communication

You are invited to a symposium organized by Carleton University’s School of Journalism and Communication in partnership with Farm Radio International.

The symposium will take place Thursday February 2nd in room 2228 Richcraft Hall, Carleton University. It will run from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm. To register, visit this link bit.ly/3Rf6ryF

This will be a working lunch, with panel and breakout discussions. Lunch will be provided so registration in advance is required.

We all have a stake in climate change. This symposium will discuss Ottawa-based NGO Farm Radio International’s five-year project “On-Air for Gender-Inclusive Nature-Based Solutions”. The project addresses climate change and biodiversity loss in rural Africa through high impact radio programs. Global Affairs Canada and Carleton University’s School of Journalism and Communication are both partners in the project.

Panelists will discuss the Farm Radio International project through the lens of the actors, and agendas, involved.
Panelists will include: Zelalem Nega, Senior Country Representative at Farm Radio International for Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda; broadcasters involved in On Air Dialogues in Ethiopia; Kevin Perkins, Executive Director, Farm Radio International; Brian Tomlinson, Executive Director, AidWatch Canada; and Allan Thompson, Journalism Program Head and Associate Director, School of Journalism and Communication, Carleton University. The chair of the event will be Prof. Christine Crowther of Carleton's School of Journalism and Communication.

The panel will be followed by breakout discussions with registered participants.
Space is limited but we will keep a wait list. If you register then find you can’t join us, please let us know, so we can offer your place to someone else.
