Please join us on Thursday, January 28, 2016, for the official launch event of the Jean Monnet Chair “Democracy in the European Union” at Carleton University.

The event will include opening remarks from Her Excellency Marie-Anne Coninsx, the Ambassador of the European Union to Canada, an introduction from the chair holder, Professor Achim Hurrelmann, and a keynote lecture by Professor Vivien Schmidt—a well-known political scientist from Boston University—titled: “Democracy in Europe: At Risk in the Euro Crisis?”

The Jean Monnet Chair “Democracy in the European Union” was awarded to Achim Hurrelmann by the European Union in 2015. The JMC provides a focal point for teaching, research and public discussion about the EU’s democratic institutions, decision-making processes, and practices of political participation in EU politics.
