Join us on the evening of Thursday, Dec. 1, at Carleton University for a major public event grappling with the upsurge in targeted online abuse facing journalists, especially women journalists of colour. Register here for Inperson attendance
Journalists and online hate: What to do when the battlefield is everywhere is hosted by Carleton’s School of Journalism and Communication, in conjunction with CBC/Radio-Canada and #NotOK.
CBC/Radio-Canada President and CEO Catherine Tait and Sonia Verma, Editor-in-Chief of Global News, will open the event and CTV Ottawa Bureau Chief Joyce Napier will be moderating the event.
A panel of leading journalists including Saba Eitizaz of the Toronto Star, Global TV's Rachel Gilmore and Hill Times columnist Erica Ifill will share their perspectives and engage in a discussion with federal Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino, who will also join the panel
The event will begin at 6 p.m. in Room 2220 Richcraft Hall, on the Carleton University campus. The event is free and open to the public, but space will be limited so participants must register in advance. A Zoom link will be available closer to the date, for those who wish to participate virtually.
