Join us for this rare opportunity to engage with world renowned expert, Bela Hovy, Chief of Migration at the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), New York.

The opportunities and challenges arising from current global demographics and economic trends, the global competition for talent, new mobility patterns characterized by the temporality and circularity of migration processes, and changes to federal migration policies cannot be underestimated. Throughout the West governments and civil societies have struggled to manage international migration and the integration of migrants and refugees within their borders. More recently, countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America are beginning to face the inevitability of migration including return migration to their native countries.

Mr. Hovy will present the latest data and information available to UNDESA on key issues including global demographics, political and economic trends and their impact on international migration; the shift in countries of origin and destination of migrants; the increased global student mobility, etc.

Mr. Hovy will be in Ottawa as a faculty member for Metropolis Professional Development, an event that will gather multiple senior policy makers and experts in the field of migration and integration from more than 10 countries. Following the presentation, participants will be invited to network during a cocktail reception with delicious charcuterie and refreshments (cash bar available).
