Achille Mbembe was invited by France's President Emmanuel Macron to lead preparations for the upcoming 29th Africa-France Summit. For the past half year, Prof Mbembe has been organizing debates across twelve African countries, addressing what he calls the ‘big angry questions’ of French military intervention, the Francophonie, the future of the CFA franc and the governance of natural resources. Mbembe has previously accused Macron of "lacking imagination" in his political engagement with Africa. He boldly seized Macron’s invitation to recraft an agenda for new relations between France and Africa. We are delighted to host Mbembe as he presents the key ideas in his recently-completed report.
