The Centre for European Studies Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence and the Embassy of Germany in Ottawa are pleased to invite you to the EU Policy Talk, Beyond hard science: Scenarios about the EU’s digital sovereignty, with Dr. Annegret Bendiek, Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP) Berlin.

About the event: Europe today is confronted with a challenging global political environment. The digitalization of ever more areas of action and conflicts between major powers have led to the calls for European power politics in the digital sphere. These are (only) justified if they are understood in accordance with democratic values and multilateral principles and related to the promotion of open society. What future scenarios are plausible for EU’s position in a growing tech rivalry between United States and China?

Dr. Bendiek is Senior Associate in the EU-Europe Research Division at Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP) Berlin. Her current research focuses on Digital geopolitics, EU cyber diplomacy, EU cyber security regulation and EU cyber defense.

The event is free and open to the public. Registration is required to attend. Please complete the form at the CES events page, by Wednesday, October 7, 2020. Upon receipt of your registration, a confirmation email will be sent to you with instructions.

This event is co-hosted by the Embassy of Germany in Ottawa and the Centre for European Studies Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence. Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence activities are co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union and by Carleton University.
