The collection and use of EDI demographic data is a newer concept and practice to the Canadian academic and post-secondary environment. While the collection of this data as requirements for labour mandates have been in effect, the analysis and use of the information have at times done more harm, especially to equity-denied groups, than good. In this session, Dr. Nicole Kaniki will define what EDI demographic data is, how it can/should be collected and analyzed, and what administrators can do with this information to support EDI at the institution more broadly. Dr. Kaniki will also cover some better practices and strategic use of EDI demographic data for administration and research purposes that are specific to the context of Canada.
