Join Carleton University Art Gallery (CUAG) for the eighth (and final!) edition of our lecture series DOUBLE MAJOR, where we’ll hear from two passionate experts, each speaking for 20 minutes about their subject, after which there will be a Q&A addressing both topics. One speaker is from the Ottawa-Gatineau community, and one is from the Carleton community. DOUBLE MAJOR is a fun and friendly way to stimulate discussion of seemingly disparate topics, and to make new connections between people and ideas. Props encouraged!

New Media Art Conservation (Ainsley Walton) and Introverts (John Zelenski)

DOUBLE MAJOR is held at CUAG. Lectures start at 7pm.

DOUBLE MAJOR is brought to you by Carleton University Art Gallery and the Carleton University Alumni Association.

Speakers:
Ainsley Walton holds a Master’s Degree in Art Conservation from Queen’s University with a specialization in paper conservation. Immediately after graduating she worked as a conservator of archival materials at the Archives of Manitoba and Library and Archives Canada. In 2007, she was awarded the Claudia de Hueck Fellowship to research the conservation of video, film and 35mm slide-based artworks at the National Gallery. Since then she has worked as Assistant Conservator of Contemporary Art and is now Conservator of Prints and Drawings at the National Gallery of Canada. Her work at the gallery has entailed documenting, repairing and strategic planning for long-term preservation of artworks made from a variety of historic and contemporary materials and techniques.

John Zelenski is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. As a researcher and director of the Carleton University Happiness Laboratory, he studies individual differences in happiness, and how personality manifests itself 'in the moment' as emotional and cognitive processes. Recent work has focused on the causes and consequences of social behaviour (e.g., in relation to the personality trait of introversion-extraversion), and the links among nature, people’s sense of connection to nature, happiness, and sustainable behaviour. His research is supported by SSHRC, ORF, and CFI. In addition, he teaches courses on personality, happiness, abnormal and positive psychology at Carleton.
