The Carleton University Scholars at Risk committee invites you to attend a panel discussion about Dangerous Scholars on Wednesday September 19, 2018.
The panel will feature Profs. Mustafa Bahran (Department of Physics) and Rahim Surkhi (School of Linguistics and Language Studies), who are both visiting professors at Carleton through the Scholars at Risk program. They will discuss their journeys to Carleton, their academic backgrounds and their perspectives on the importance of academic freedom.The discussion will be moderated by Emily Borzcik, Senior Program Officer, Scholar Rescue Fund Institute of International Education. Carleton University Librarian Wayne Jones will also speak about the freedom to read.

Profs. Bahran and Surkhi’s appointments were arranged in partnership with the Institute of International Education’s Scholar Rescue Fund.
The Scholars at Risk program supports academics who are at risk in their home countries and offers them a unique opportunity to teach and interact with colleagues and students in safe environments. The Carleton Scholars at Risk Committee works with the Scholars at Risk network, the Scholar Rescue Fund and other organizations dedicated to protecting threatened scholars, preventing attacks on higher education communities, and promoting academic freedom worldwide.
