In this informal presentation, historian and filmmaker Susan Stryker discusses the recent rapid consolidation of the field of transgender studies, including the launch of a new peer reviewed journal, TSQ: Transgender Studies Quarterly, and the recent cluster hire of transgender studies faculty at the University of Arizona. She will link these recent developments to the evolving significance
of transgender identity, and transgender social movements, in contemporary society.
Susan Stryker is Associate Professor of Gender and Women’s Studies, and Director of the Institute for LGBT Studies, at the University of Arizona. She is the author of Transgender History (Seal Press 2008), and co-editor of the award-winning anthologies Transgender Studies Reader and Transgender Studies Reader 2 (Routledge, 2005 and 2013).
