1125@carleton and the READ Initiative are pleased to invite you to a special presentation of the Design Innovation for Disability in Kasese Project (DIDK), a two-year collaborative effort concerning design for people with disabilities in rural Uganda. The multifaceted project involves several international stakeholders including: Universities in both Canada and Uganda, NGO’s as well as grass roots level organizations for people with disability in both countries. The effort is funded by a generous grant from the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) in Ottawa, Canada.

To date 8 undergraduate and 1 master student have travelled to Uganda and have spent time working with local artisan manufacturers, end users, Ugandan university students as well as faculty to produce locally made products for people with disabilities. The innovative solutions address mobility, income generation and farming. The unique approach of the project has been to design with end users rather than for end users.

Come and join the students and project partners for a presentation on the unique products developed, lessons learned and future possibilities. Space is limited so register early!!
