Ehsan Amjadian of Carleton University will be giving the talk “Automatic Readability Assessment of Persian Educational Text” at noon in room 2203 of Dunton Tower, Thursday Oct 1

Abstract of talk:

Automatic Readability Assessment (ARA) is the process of evaluating texts by machines in order to measure their level of difficulty. This in turn contributes to the tasks of Automatic Reading Assignment and Automatic Text Simplification as well as to our understanding of what aspects of text may lead to its difficulty. Such may expand our knowledge about how textual information is processed by the brain. The current work presents the results of initial steps towards tackling ARA of Persian educational text exploiting 4 supervised learning algorithms. The results suggest sufficiency of shallow features for educational science texts.
