The Landon Pearson Centre at Carleton University will mark National Child Day on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014 with music, dance and the release of two publications – an updated discussion paper on A Canada Fit For Children, Canada’s national plan of action on children and youth, and the inaugural issue of the Canadian Journal of Children’s Rights.

Pearson co-ordinated the action plan for Canada while serving in Senate in 2004, following the 2002 UN Special Session on Children. She has spent the past year consulting with a number of groups on progress made over the past decade for Canada’s children and youth.
The concert will feature Korean master percussionist Dong-Won Kim and Carleton Prof. Jesse Stewart. Dong-Won is a vocalist, dancer and children’s author who plays in the Silk Road Ensemble with Yo-Yo Ma. Jesse Stewart is an award-winning composer, improviser, percussionist, visual artist, instrument builder, researcher, writer, educator, community activist and professor of music at Carleton.
Dong-Won Kim and Prof. Stewart will be joined onstage by local school children. The event also includes a special performance by The Dandelion Dancers, a local youth social justice dance group.
