Bagels and Banter is a monthly opportunity to discuss shared research and teaching and learning topics with faculty members in a relaxed setting. Learn about new topics, teaching methods and potential research collaborations.

Bagels and Banter is open to all faculty and staff members and FPA graduate students.

January’s topic “Creative Writing in/as Research” is presented by Sheryl Hamilton (Communication/Law and Legal Studies).

Hamilton is currently completing a graduate certificate in creative writing and would like to gather colleagues together to consider the ways in which creative writing, fiction in particular, can enhance both research and teaching. Meant for scholars who are not primarily creative writers or teaching creative writing, we will consider how fiction can be incorporated into research, what the overlaps and differences between of creative and scholarly writing are, how creative writing an enhance supervision of graduate students’ work, and how it might be incorporated into the undergraduate and graduate classroom.
