About this Event

Host Organization: Co-sponsored by The Department of Sociology & Anthropology and the School for Studies in Art and Culture

Patricia Nicholson Parker is an acclaimed New York poet, dancer, and choreographer. She is also the founder and director of the non-profit organization Arts for Art and the Vision Festival, which fosters multidisciplinary experimentation among some of the world's leading avant jazz musicians, dancers, poets, and visual artists. Ms. Nicholson has received the “Producer of the Year” award from the Jazz Journalists Association on three occasions (2003, 2007 and 2008).

William Parker is an improviser, composer, poet, and multi-instrumentalist. He plays the bass, shakuhachi, double reeds, tuba, donson ngoni, and guembri. The Boston Globe writes that, “William Parker has emerged as the most important leader of the current avant-garde scene in jazz”.

Please join us to hear them speak about their work and their thoughts on jazz and improvisation.
