Dr. El Jones is a professor of Political and Canadian Studies at Mount Saint Vincent University, prison justice and abolition activist, former Halifax poet laureate, and author of the new book Abolitionist Intimacies (Fernwood, 2022). On Friday night November 4 at 7 pm, she will be giving a free public talk and poetry reading in downtown Ottawa at Carleton's Dominion Chalmers Centre, 355 Cooper St.
During the event, El will share passages and poetry from her latest book about imprisonment and abolitionist struggles for liberation. She will be joined by special guests who will also share their insights about the Canadian carceral state and the need for decarceral futures. The event is sponsored by the Department of Sociology and Anthropology.
