To the valued students and community members in the ACB community,

In partnership with Carleton University, The University of Ottawa, and the Royal Bank of Canada, the Afro-Caribbean Mentorship Program (ACMP) would like to welcome you to attend our fourth annual "More than Networking" Event.

At the end of each fall semester since 2018, the ACMP has hosted one of its most anticipated events among the series of programs designed to inspire and empower African descent youth. The "More Than Networking" event is intended for African, Caribbean, and Black (ACB) and other marginalized students from high school to post-secondary. In past events, the ACMP attracted up to 200 students, faculty, and broader community members. The primary goal is to meet with career-minded people in various professions and encourage the importance of creating a network for the social, political, and economic development of ACB students (ages 15 +).

This initiative will empower young ACB people while intentionally increasing their understanding of the importance of networking. Additionally, by creating a space where the youth can access professionals they may relate to and build their network. All professionals will participate in teaching ACB young people the importance of networking. Professionals are being encouraged to extend an “olive branch” by meeting young people online and possibly connecting with them after the event to continue a positive mentor and mentee relationship. We trust that your time with the professionals will be fruitful, and if you are willing and able, potentially turn into long-term mentorship opportunities.

The FREE event will be held online, and people participating will experience the following learning outcomes:

  1. Build relationships of solidarity between ACB youth and ACB professionals
    • ACB young people will meet professionals, and professionals will meet enthusiastic young people who will be next to lead our professional and post-secondary sectors.
  2. ACB young people (high school and post-secondary) gain group mentorship from career-minded individuals.
  3. ACB young people potentially gain a mentor who sees the need to provide one on one mentorship beyond the event.
  4. Professionals can give back to young ACB people in a non-intrusive way.
  5.
