Held twice annually, in the Spring and the Fall, the Ottawa Leadership Luncheon series presents an opportunity for members of the Carleton community to hear from a community or business leader who speaks on an issue or topic of local or national importance. The Spring 2014 Luncheon will feature Dan Fortin, B.ENG./78, LL.D./09, President, IBM Canada, who will explore the latest revolution in technology. The dramatic shifts in the way we communicate, conduct business, create original content and access information are just beginning. In the coming years, we will see and experience how this revolution will change our world.

Dan Fortin brings many years of leadership and management insight to his current position as President, IBM Canada, where he sets the strategic direction for the IBM organization in Canada, and oversees its day-to-day operations.

Prior to this role, Dan was General Manager for IBM's Global Distribution Sector, where he was responsible for worldwide revenue, profit and customer satisfaction for IBM’s clients in the Retail, Consumer Products, and Travel & Transportation industries. From 2005 to 2010, Dan served as the President of IBM Canada. His return to the position very much aligns with his desire and passion to work closely with IBM Canada teams as they help Canadian clients transform their businesses.

Dan’s IBM career began in 1978, and over the years he has held a variety of marketing and management positions including the international roles of Vice President of Small and Medium Business, Business Partners, and Inside Sales.

Outside IBM, Dan is active on a number of boards and associations, including World Vision Canada where he served as the chair of its board of directors.

Dan is a native of Quebec and is fluent in both English and French. He graduated in 1978 with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree from Carleton University in Ottawa, and received an honorary doctorate from his alma mater in June 2009.
