In collaboration with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO), the Tetra Society and March of Dimes Canada DesignAbility Program, Carleton's READ Initiative is pleased to host Enable Ottawa 2015. In celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), this unique information session brings together the organizations in the National Capital that are involved with the development of solutions to issues of accessibility faced by individuals with disabilities.

Our goals for our first seminar:
•Raise awareness of the issues presented to society concerning the requirements of people with disabilities of any age.

•Show how engineering advances, industrial design and technology can address the challenges facing individuals with disabilities and help overcome barriers to better living.

•Demonstrate how Carleton University and the READ Initiative are leaders in this important sector of work and show examples of their capabilities developed through research and its application.

•Demonstrate how DesignAbility and the Tetra Society respond to the specific needs of persons with disabilities through the creation of assistive devices through the work of skilled volunteers.

•Provide an opportunity for like-minded engineers, industrial designers, students, and individuals to assist in collaborative projects through the Tetra Society and DesignAbility.

•Make organizations responsible for aid to people with disabilities aware of the opportunities for help available through Carleton University, DesignAbility and the Tetra Society to meet their clients’ needs.

•Provide a networking forum to encourage businesses, the public sector, and groups dealing with persons with disabilities to establish working relationships.
