The Bell Chair in Canadian Parliamentary Democracy Presents:

Dr. Alex Marland
Professor
Department of Political Science, Memorial University

Why do Canadian politicians repeat message lines and vote with their party? Dr. Alex Marland’s interactive talk presents the latest research about the hidden aspects of politicians presenting a united front. This research explains why party discipline has transformed into message discipline in Canada. Dr. Marland has published extensively on what goes on behind the scenes Canadian politics and governance and his book,Brand Command: Canadian Politics and Democracy in the Age of Message Control, won the Donner Prize for public policy in 2016.
