About this Event
Host Organization: The Faculty of Engineering and Design
On Dec. 6, 2019, please join the Carleton community’s commemoration of the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, and the 30th anniversary of the Montreal Massacre taking place at noon (12 p.m.) in the Tory Building Lobby.
On Dec. 6, 1989, 13 female students and a female administrator at l’École Polytechnique de Montréal were murdered because they were women. Their deaths led Parliament to designate Dec. 6 as a national day of remembrance. This day represents an opportunity to acknowledge that women in Canada, and globally, face disproportionate levels of violence. It is also an opportunity to consider the reality and existence of continued gender-based violence, and to take action to eliminate all forms of it in our communities.
Opening remarks from President Benoit-Antoine Bacon and Ikram Jama, human rights and equity advisor for the Department of Equity and Inclusive Communities, will be followed by a moment of silence and an opportunity to browse various displays hosted by participating units from across campus.
