On December 6, 2024, the Faculty of Engineering and Design (FED) invites the Carleton community to join us in observing Canada’s National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women—established in commemoration of the 1989 killing of 14 women at École Polytechnique (now Polytechnique Montréal). On this day, we also remember those who experience gender-based violence and those we have lost to it, especially missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, and women from equity denied backgrounds.
Beginning at 12:15pm, Carleton’s Interim President and Vice-Chancellor, Jerry Tomberlin, The Faculty of Engineering and Design’s Associate Dean of EDI, Cynthia Cruickshank, and Vice President, External of the Carleton Student Engineering Society, Monica Paul will share remarks to remember and reflect on the importance of the day. President Tomberlin will hold a moment of silence before inviting attendees to reflect on ways we can all be better allies to women.
