How we learn is shaped by how the human mind works. As a consequence, we need to carefully utilize a variety of teaching and learning media – words, pictures, sounds – to promote effective learning.
In this workshop, we’ll introduce the basics of the cognitive theory of multimedia learning (CTML) and discuss how we can apply the principles derived from it when designing instruction, whether we teach a live class, use presentation slides or design online lessons.
Working in groups, you’ll analyze provided examples of learning with multimedia, and suggest improvements based on the examined principles. You’ll leave this session with practical skills that will inspire you to rethink how to effectively use multimedia in your teaching for the benefit of your learners.
This is part of Course Design Fundamentals, offered by TLS. Participants who complete five workshops and a guided reflection of the experience will receive a letter of completion to include in their teaching dossier.
