Professor Margarida Duarte (University of Toronto) will give the inaugural Kanta Marwah Lecture. Dr. Marwah is a distinguished Research Professor and Professor Emeritus of Economics, having dedicated over 50 years of service to Carleton. Among her many philanthropic activities is a very generous donation in the form of a capital fund to the Department of Economics to support and enhance the research activities of current and future generations of economists here in the department.
Professor Duarte is a macroeconomist whose research has focused on questions in international economics and economic growth and development. Her work has been published in leading journals in Economics. Her current research studies the process of structural transformation, the reallocation of resources across broad sectors of the economy, over time and across countries. Professor Duarte received her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Rochester and a B.A. in Economics from Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Portugal).
