Join us for a walk around the gallery to visit THREE SONGS with artist Laura Taler and three invited guests: writer Melissa Bull, film critic Tom McSorley and poet Namitha Rathinappillai.

At each song / installation, Laura will field questions from Melissa, Tom or Namitha, offering insights into the work’s stories, themes and questions.

This event is part of the Stonecroft Symposium: THREE SONGS.

Participants
Melissa Bull (she/her) is a Montreal-based writer, editor and translator. She was the editor of Maisonneuve magazine’s “Writing from Quebec” column for a decade, and has published poetry, essays, articles and interviews in a variety of publications. Melissa is the author of a collection of poetry, Rue (2015), as well as a collection of short stories, The Knockoff Eclipse (2018). Her translation of Maxime Raymond Bock’s novel Morel is forthcoming.

Tom McSorley is an Ottawa-based film critic and scholar. He is Executive Director of the Canadian Film Institute. He is also an Adjunct Research Professor of Film Studies at Carleton University, and the film critic for CBC Radio One’s “Ottawa Morning.” He is the author of numerous articles and book chapters on Canadian and international cinema.

Namitha Rathinappillai (she/they) is a queer, Tamil-Canadian published spoken-word poet, organizer and workshop facilitator. She is currently based in Toronto, and was the first female and youngest director of Ottawa’s Urban Legends Poetry Collective (ULPC).
