A Journey Through the ‘Blue Space’ in Our Backyard

Wednesday, October 29, 2025 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm

Please join Carleton University senior writer Dan Rubinstein and Global Water Institute director Banu Örmeci for a conversation about Dan’s new book, Water Borne: A 1,200-Mile Paddleboarding Pilgrimage, and the important role that “blue space” plays in our lives and communities. The book, which is rooted in Dan’s journalistic paddleboard journey from Ottawa back to Ottawa via Montreal, New York City and Toronto, has been called “a must-read for anyone drawn to the intersection of nature, history and adventure” by author and adventurer Colin Angus. It explores the health, ecological social benefits of spending time in, on and around water. Dr.  Örmeci is not only one of Canada’s leading water researchers, she’s also an avid swimmer, and this past summer led a project that tested the water quality at multiple locations on the Rideau River. Light refreshments will be served and a Q&A will follow the discussion.
