Join us on Thursday, September 28th for the 10th annual Economics Alumni Chapter Reception at Throwback.

Hosted by the Economics Chapter of the Carleton University Alumni Association and the Economics Department, this annual event provides an opportunity for economics graduates, faculty and staff to gather in person to reconnect and network. The evening will include a light reception, remarks by the Dean of the Faculty of Public Affairs, Chair of the Economics Department, and a special presentation by the guest of honour and esteemed economist Marc Lavoie.

Marc Lavoie, Carleton graduate BA/75 Mathematics and BAHonours/76 Economics, and Université de Paris graduate Masters and Doctorate 1979, is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Economics at the University of Ottawa, where he taught from 1979 to 2016.

Besides having published around 250 articles in refereed journals or as chapters in books, he has written a number of books, among which Introduction to Post-Keynesian Economics (2006), translated into seven languages, Foundations of Post-Keynesian Economic Analysis (1992), as well as Monetary Economics: An Integrated Approach to Money, Income, Production and Wealth (2007) with Wynne Godley, a book which deals with the stock-flow consistent method. He has been the co-editor of six books, including one on the works of Milton Friedman, in addition to writing the first Canadian edition of the Baumol and Blinder first-year textbook (2009) with Mario Seccareccia. His most recent work is Post-Keynesian Economics: New Foundations (2014), which received the Myrdal-Robinson Prize of the European Association for Evolutionary Political Economy, the second edition of which will be published in 2022. Lavoie has been a visiting professor at the universities of Bordeaux, Nice, Rennes, Dijon, Grenoble, Limoges, Lille, Paris-Nord and Paris-1, as well as Curtin University in Perth (Australia). He has received an honorary doctorate from the University of Sorbonne Paris Nord, where he has also taught and been the director of the EPOG Master program. He has lectured at the post-Keynesian summer schools in Berlin, Kansas City and the Levy Economics Institute. He is also a Research Associate at the Broadbent,Institute (Toronto) and a Research Fellow at the Institut für Makroöconomie of the Hans Böckler Foundation (Düsseldorf).

Marc has also participated at the Olympic Games in Montreal (1976) and Los Angeles (1984) in fencing, and won the Canadian senior championship in sabre seven times, between 1975 and 1986. As a Carleton student, Marc was Male Athlete of the Year in 1973-1974 and again in 1974-1975, and was OUA Champion in 1974-1975. Marc was inducted into the Ravens Hall of Fame in 2014 which honours standout athletes and significant builders who have made a tremendous impact at Carleton University in both sport and community.
