Carleton University’s Azrieli School of Architecture and Urbanism is pleased to launch a new continuing education program in Digital Acquisition and 3D Scanning. This course is open to anyone interested in the subject area. Architects, Landscape Architects, Licensed Technologists, and Planners can earn continuing education hours by participating.

This course is an introduction to digital documentation with a focus on laser scanning. We will discuss the current tools and techniques available with practical demonstration and individual participation. The course will be hands-on and cover the basics of scanning including scanner setup, user interface, target placement, and site evaluation. Participants will also get an overview of scan viewing, registration, filtering, and export options for external digital applications.

The course will be held at the Carleton Immersive Media Studio (CIMS), a Carleton University research centre dedicated to the advanced study of innovative, hybrid forms of architectural representation.

The course will be taught by Ken Percy, a PhD candidate in Architecture. Ken has been leading research in digital documentation at the Carleton Immersive Media Studio for the last five years. His international experience includes projects and teaching in Morocco, Peru, Israel, Italy and Belgium. In Canada, Ken has led small and large scale documentation projects including surveying and laser scanning the parliament buildings.
