About this Event

Host Organization: Carleton University - Faculty of Public Affairs

Bagels and Banter is a monthly opportunity to discuss shared research and teaching and learning topics with faculty members in a relaxed setting. Learn about new topics, teaching methods and potential research collaborations.

Bagels and Banter is open to all faculty members and FPA graduate students.

September’s topic “Replicating Research Results: a teachable moment?” is presented by Frances Woolley (Department of Economics).

There is increasing interest within the social sciences in replicating research results. Moreover, greater data availability, more sophisticated software, and better data archiving mean that replicating research results is a feasible project for undergraduate students to undertake. Replicating a research article is an excellent way for students to learn how journal articles are constructed, to experience reading an article thoroughly and carefully (including the footnotes), and to gain skills in carrying out and interpreting empirical work.
