A unique take on an artist talk, with friends!

Come for an artist talk at 1:00 and stay for the launch party at 2:30 of The Art of Faye HeavyShield.

Join us for an informal, conversational walk around the gallery to visit the exhibition with artist Faye HeavyShield and three guests: Louise Profeit-LeBlanc, Alexandra Kahsenni:io Nahwegahbow and Victoria Henry.

Faye will field questions from Louise, Vicki and Alex, offering insights into the works’ stories, themes and questions.

Access: This event will require moving around the gallery space. Light chairs are available. A microphone will be used.

Construction: A big construction project at the north end of campus has changed the usual walking routes to CUAG. Here is a map to guide you.

Parking: Discount passes ($5.00 flat rate) will be available for purchase from 12:45 – 3:15 p.m. for parking in P18 (the big parkade built over the O-train tracks). Gallery staff will be standing on the sidewalk outside the P18 parkade, right before the entrance.

Participants
Faye HeavyShield is an internationally renowned Blackfoot (Blood) artist. Her work is held in public collections across North America and has been featured in major exhibitions at The Power Plant, National Gallery of Canada, Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art, Southern Alberta Art Gallery, Art Gallery of Ontario, Pulitzer Arts Foundation (St. Louis), Minneapolis Institute of Art, Art Gallery of Alberta and the Remai Modern, among many others.

Victoria Henry is the founder of Ufundi Gallery in downtown Ottawa (1976-1992), which introduced HeavyShield’s work to Ottawa audiences alongside other First Nations contemporary artists including Shelley Niro, Robert Houle and Carl Beam. Henry was the Director of the Canada Council Art Bank from 1999-2015 and is currently Vice-Chair of the Hnatyshyn Foundation.

Louise Profeit-LeBlanc is a member of the Nacho N’yak Dun First Nation of Mayo, in Northeastern Yukon. She is a mother, grandmother and a Story-Keeper. She has travelled extensively, sharing stories at many international venues, storytelling festivals and universities. She is also a visual textile artist, poet and short story writer.
