Accessibility is a key value, a strategic goal and good teaching practice at Carleton. Faculty and instructors have a critical role to play in creating equitable access to education for learners of all abilities. Come and let us show you what that looks like! Through a combination of mini-lectures, video, technical demonstrations, hands-on activities, and small group activities, we’ll guide you through the basics of accessibility and inclusive design.
Some of the key topics you will learn about in this 3 hour session:
• Understanding disability and accessibility
• Reviewing AODA requirements
• Creating accessible Microsoft Word documents and making your syllabus/assignments accessible
• Using Accessibility checkers and resolving accessibility issues
• Supporting students by linking them to key campus resources
Join us as we explore these topics and learn strategies to reduce barriers in your classroom!
To prepare for this session:
• Bring your own laptop, as we have a limited number to share.
• Know the basics of MS Office (or similar tools). If you have limited experience with MS Word, you may want to check out this training video at lynda.com.
• Download the newest version of MS Office, including MS Word, for free from the Carleton University ITS website.
• Bring an electronic version of your course materials (e.g. course syllabus) to work on together.
