Inclusivity is one of the core values adopted by many Canadian post-secondary institutions, including Carleton: “We value, encourage and respect all forms of diversity and promote an inclusive environment in the teaching and learning community at Carleton” (A Teaching and Learning Framework for Carleton University, 2013-2018). Our challenge as educators is to relate these values to everyday teaching practices.
After completing this three-day interactive summer institute, participants will be able to:
-Identify barriers to, and facilitators of, inclusivity across areas of course design
-Evaluate inclusive modes of assessments, learning activities, and facilitation practices
-Use diversity/inclusivity as a framework to assess their own teaching practices
-Apply the principles of universal design to create/re-design an assessment, learning activity, or facilitation practice
A light lunch will be provided.
