Faculty Lecture Series: Managing Religious Diversity in Canada and India

India and Canada are both broadly liberal secular democracies, committed to respecting the plurality of religious views and identities among their citizens. Although they have arrived at their political principles through distinctly different historical trajectories and are dissimilar in many respects, the two nations face some common challenges in their struggles to find an appropriate model for managing religious diversity. These include the problem of majoritarianism, finding the right balance between individual rights and group identities, inter- and intra-group hostilities, and possible negative effects of the politics of recognition.

Join us as we hear from Dr. Sonia Sikka, Professor of Philosophy at University of Ottawa who has led several SSHRC funded workshops in Canada and India on the management of religious diversity. The Faculty Series is designed to showcase the scholarly research of faculty involved in Canada India studies to the university community and provide a platform for academic discourse.
