Canada has entered into free trade agreements with the European Union and the Trans Pacific Partnership. China has indicated an interest in discussing free trade with Canada and the new Canadian government appears open to the idea. This presentation will look at the political and economic factors involved in negotiating a free trade agreement with China. Dan Ciuriak specializes in international trade, finance, industrial policy and development. He has published widely as author and editor, within government and in a personal capacity. He has commented in the media; presented at academic, business and official venues, including the WTO, the World Bank, APEC, and the OECD; He is the co-author, with Laura Dawson of Chasing China: Why an Economic Agreement with China is Necessary for Canada’s Continued Prosperity.
