The Ottawa International Rhythm Festival is proud to present an exciting line-up of artists showcasing the Rhythms of the world. This breath-taking festival will take you all around the globe from Brazil to Japan, and give you a taste of many rhythmic cultures right here in Canada. This Festival will be featuring renowned artists such as Pandit Kumar Bose, an exemplary maestro of the North Indian Drum the Tabla. He has performed at the Royal Albert Hall, the Kremlin in Moscow, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and Carnegie Hall in New York, and has the distinction of having performed for Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles as an accompanist to Pandit Ravi Shankar.

The Ottawa International Rhythm Festival will also feature amazing drumming and dance talent from right here in Ottawa including Ottawa Taiko Drumers, Samba Ottawa, Rolling Thunder – South Indian Drummers, Tree Frog Percussion, Ottawa Rhythm Initiative, Marimba Band and Many More.

Workshops and Lecture demonstrations will be ongoing in the afternoon, and participants will not only learn about the drums and dance, but will be asked to come and try them out. This is a family event for all ages with exhilarating music and wonderful dance performances.

Gharana Arts has had many successes with hosting and organizing festivals across North America and India including Kala Jashn ( presented in Kolkata, India) and the Canadian Gharana Festival (Presented in Ottawa in 2012). Gharana Arts is also proud to have established June 24th, 2012 as Indian Classical Arts Day as declared by Ottawa Mayor, Jim Watson.

The Ottawa International Rhythm Festival will celebrate the importance of these rhythmic traditions and support their development right here in Ottawa, highlighting how they contribute to a diverse and strong Canadian identity.
