About this Event
Host Organization: FASS and the Department of English
One of the most acclaimed Canadian writers of her generation, novelist and short story writer Lynn Coady was awarded the 2013 Scotiabank Giller Prize for the short story collection Hellgoing. Coady's work is often characterized by a wry and raucous humour as it explores the absurdities of life in small, insular communities, whether towns, universities, or writers' retreats. Entitled "On Storytelling and Discomfort," Coady's lecture will explore the question of how the best, or at least the most honest, storytelling is that which makes both the teller and the listener uncomfortable to varying degrees. This is a free public lecture. A reception will follow.
