Friday, May 31, 2013, | Friday, May 31, 2013, (Multiday Event)Friday, May 31, 2013, | Friday, May 31, 2013, (Multiday Event)
Indiegogo fundraising drive to support an installation project. Professor Manuel Baez and students from his Crossings Workshop will be installing a project at HUB Ottawa this summer for an opening in September when students return.

Inspired by the global and local collaborative initiatives of The Hub, the Hub Ottawa Installation is envisioned as an integrative network and support structure which would be in resonance with the open concept and inclusiveness of its environment. As a woven structure of bands of plywood and translucent wiremesh fabric, the interwoven network reflects its material capabilities and properties while simultaneously responding and adapting to its setting. The resulting modulating patterns within the overall collaborative weave, their resonant configurations, and holistic co-dependence of parts are envisioned as fluent metaphors for the Hub’s inclusive, social, innovative, and collective goals and their equivalent parallels within the multicultural diversity of the Canadian setting.

The Indiegogo fund raising campaign for the Resonant Currents project at HUB Ottawa kicked off last Thursday with a YouTube video and how donations can be made:

Please join us from September 27 to 29, 2013, as Canadians from across the country converge on Ottawa for a conference on improving the quality of life in our communities through the arts.

Co-hosted by the Michaëlle Jean Foundation and Carleton University’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, the Forum will mobilize researchers, business leaders, legal experts, policymakers, youth, health practitioners, artists, and others to explore cutting-edge research and social innovation for bettering the lives of underserved Canadians and revitalizing communities.

Over three days, forum participants will explore ways in which grassroots youth organizations, arts communities and academia can work with sectors as varied as health, business, and law, to discuss issues such as youth crime, mental health, unemployment, and social exclusion, through the arts. Our goal is to produce a national agenda outlining ways in which all sectors of Canadian society can enhance grassroots strategies for inclusion, personal and community development, and prosperity for all Canadians.

The Power of the Arts Forum weekend will feature a town hall, plenary sessions and workshops, as well as a celebration of Canadian achievement in the arts.

Registration

Please visit http://www.carleton.ca/fass/power-of-the-arts-forum to register and for more information.
