Dr. Melanie Oppenheimer will visit Carleton for an exchange on her recent work where she will present her work in an informal setting. She will talk about her early research on the role of civilian war charities (or patriotic funds as they were known in Australia – which of course has Red Cross front and centre) during WWII – including some comparative work with Canada.
She will also talk, briefly, about the centenary history of the Australian Red Cross – and the challenges of writing the organisational history. Finally, she will speak about the Conference she is organising next Fall: Histories of the Red Cross Movement: Continuity & Change, Flinders University, Australia, 9-11 September 2016
