DOUBLE MAJOR is back! Join us for the first installment of the new academic year, where we’ll hear from two passionate experts, each speaking for 20 minutes about their subject, after which there will be a Q&A addressing both topics. One speaker is from the Ottawa-Gatineau community, and one is from the Carleton community. DOUBLE MAJOR is a fun and friendly way to stimulate discussion of seemingly disparate topics, and to make new connections between people and ideas.

Speakers:
Lee Demarbre is a Canadian cult film maker. As the president of the Ottawa- based Odessa Filmworks production company, he has led the creation of several internationally-shown films such as Harry Knuckles and the Pearl Necklace and Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter. He operates and programs Mayfair Theatre, the city’s oldest active movie theatre.

Kevin Cheung is an Associate Professor at the School of Mathematics and Statistics. In addition to his research interest in discrete optimization, he is closely involved in designing and developing teaching materials and exploiting technology to help students attain mastery. His YouTube channel MathApptician was named one of ten YouTube Next EDU Guru finalists and received the Khan Academy Prize in 2012. In his spare time, he enjoys composing music and playing the violin.
